Maskman appears in Kindai
- Chi-Chi started a new campus life at K-dai on July April 6.
- He always wears a "mask" on the way to and from the college, so people call him "Maskman".

電車や新幹線で「みなさま，まもなく終点，東京です」というアナウンスを聞いたことがあるだろう．日本語に続いて英語で
"Ladies and gentlemen, we will soon be arriving at the Tokyo terminal."
とアナウンスされる．
ここで，なぜ「will be arriving」という未来進行形が用いられているのか，「will arrive」ではないのか，を考えてみよう．

まず結論からいえば，「will be arriving」のほうが穏やかで丁寧な感じになり，お客さまに対するアナウンスで用いるには適しているのだ．
では，なぜそのような“感じ”になるのか？
次の２つの英文の意味を下線部に注意して考えてみよう．
(A) How long will you stay in Japan?
(B) How long will you be staying in Japan?
(A)の「Will you ＋動詞の原形」は一般に相手の「意志」を尋ねる表現である．
一方，(B)の未来進行形は「意志」の意味が打ち消され，未来の予定や予想を尋ねる表現となる．
したがって，(A)は「あとどのくらい日本にいるつもりですか？」と相手の意志を尋ねる言い方であるのに対し，(B)は意志の意味が打ち消され「あとどれくらい日本にいることになるのですか？」という予定[予想]を尋ねる言い方になる．
(A)は相手に答えを迫る感じがあるが，(B)はやわらかで丁寧な感じがするのだ．
このように，未来進行形はwillのもつ直接的な語気を和らげて控え目な表現にするのに用いられる．
ex. (a) We won't see each other for a while.
(b) We won't be seeing each other for a while.
(a) しばらく会えなくなります．←単刀直入な表現
(b) しばらく会えなくなりますね．←穏やかでソフトな言い方，お上品

「(ある日に)当たる」というときは，「fall on」を使う．

なお，現在形は現在の状況を表すが，加えて，固定されている変更の余地のない「予定」も表す．「will fall」も可能だが，現在形の方が一般的．
これは，カレンダーに載っている行事予定や交通機関の発着時刻を表すのによく用いられる．
ex. The next train arrives at 9:00 and gets to Tokyo at 9:45.
次の電車は９時に到着し，９時４５分に東京に着きます．

「ワラビ餅の悪魔」
ワラビ餅に気をつけろ．あいつは生協の棚で，ひっそりと息をひそめて待っている．
ワラビ餅はうまい．あぁそうだ，あいつはたしかにうまいんだ．最初だけは．
１０個ほど食べてみろ．次第に手が伸びなくなるのが分かるだろう．そうさ，ワラビ餅は飽きるんだ．
おれも忘れていたよ．あいつの恐ろしさを．いま，目の前に３個のワラビ餅が残っている．あぁそうさ，たったの３個だ．だが，それが食えないんだよ．あいつにはもう飽きた．
ワラビ餅がなぜ飽きるかって？いい質問だ．
ワラビ餅に黒蜜をかけずに食べたことがあるだろうか？食べたことがあるなら分かるだろう．あいつは蜜をかけなくても甘いんだよ．

Hi, I'm Chiu.
I'm a member of Gakusei-jishu seminar, a study group formed by several friends in the same college and in the same department.

We started our own blog today. (It took me two hours to creat the blog...)
On the blog, we will write about the events in our daily lives, especially what happens around chi-chi, who is famous for the biter and "Legend".
I want the other members to write the blog, but they don't have enough time to do it.
So, I'll keep a diary instead as long as I can.
I also try to write my blog in English.
Since I take TOEFL-ibt test for the entrance examination of a graduate school next year, I have to improve my English by that time.
I think that keeping an English dialy is tough for me but very effective to upgrade my writing skills.
